Understand chargeable weight, which may be based on volume rather than actual weight. For temperature-sensitive goods, choose carriers and handlers with appropriate certifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is so much Heathrow cargo carried on passenger aircraft? Heathrow's enormous long-haul passenger network means that belly-hold space on passenger flights provides frequent, direct cargo capacity to destinations worldwide. This makes the airport highly efficient for exporters and importers without relying solely on dedicated freighter aircraft.

What types of goods are commonly shipped by air from Heathrow? Pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, fresh seafood, fruit and flowers, luxury fashion, precision engineering components and technology products are among the most common. These goods tend to be high in value, time-sensitive or perishable.

How can businesses in Spelthorne reduce air cargo costs? Consolidating shipments, optimising packaging to reduce volumetric weight, booking capacity in advance and working with forwarders who negotiate block space with airlines can all help reduce costs. Choosing deferred services for less urgent goods can also deliver meaningful savings.

Spelthorne's proximity to Heathrow gives local businesses exceptional access to global air cargo networks. The airlines, integrators and handlers above deliver the speed, expertise and reliability needed to move goods around the world with confidence.
